Tastiest Vegan Falafel

As vegans we spend a lot of time figuring out how to make something vegan or substitute something vegan. Fortunately falafel makes that very simple as it is usually vegan anyway. For the tastiest vegan falafel you came to the right place

Tasty or Simple Falafel?

Heres the thing this recipe kind of makes both tasty and simple falafel. In most recipes you will see a note that says use dry chickpeas only!

They swear by it. The notes say canned chickpeas are too moist and won’t give you a firm enough falafel.

So we became determined to try and find a recipe from canned chickpeas that was also the tastiest.

We will say that the center is a bit creamier that your traditional falafel. Honestly, the combating textures is what puts this dish over the top!

What you’ll need for the tastiest vegan falafel:

  • Canola Oil (For Frying)
  • Canned Chickpeas
  • Cumin
  • Shallot (yellow onion would suffice)
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Flour
  • Panko/Vegan Bread Crumbs

Equipment:

  • Food Processor
  • Refrigerator
  • Pan for Frying

This recipe is so simple a child could do it. Add everything EXCEPT the flour and bread crumbs to the food processor.

After you blend these ingriedents together, add the flour. Fold it in with a spatula is reccomended.

Once it has been incorparated put mixture in the fridge for an hour or freeze for 20 minutes.

After the chill roll the mixture into golf ball sized balls. Also can be a flatter shape if you’re doing a pita sandwich.

Once they’re rolled we like to freeze again for 10 minutes but this isn’t required. But it does allow you to start heating the oil too.

Put breadcrumbs or panko out on a plate. Roll the falafel mixture in the crumbs and pop in the fryer. Roll them over when the bottom side gets just beyond golden brown. When both sides are just passed golden brown remove from fryer.

Serve and enjoy.
